Video: Digital Literacy, Part 11
State Senator Alex Padilla
California Senate
December 10, 2010
Senator Alex Padilla: Well, I think that digital literacy is fundamentally important for each and every resident of this state because the internet literally touches every aspect of our daily life. It’s not just about text messaging or sending an email to a friend.
Literally our education system is being revolutionized because more and more education or research can be done on the internet. Banking is being revolutionized. You know, how many of us still stand in line to see a teller versus using an ATM or shopping online. You know, commerce and the way we purchase things is being revolutionized. Our interface and interaction with the government is being revolutionized. There’s more and more things being done online.
So in the years ahead it’s totally going to touch, you know, again, every element of our life. And that’s why it’s important, because every California will either participate in that society of the future or be left behind. And this is a state and a society of inclusiveness, not of exclusion.
