MR. MCKENZIE: The cities of this state are very, very interested in connecting with the residents of their cities. And one of the best ways they have learned to do that is through their city websites. And they’re posting information about official meetings, they’re posting information about job openings, about how to use city recreating facilities, and, perhaps most importantly, about how to get involved in their city government.
Citizens have a very, very important role to play in the operation of their city governments, whether it’s serving on boards and commissions, or calling 911 and getting services. And so it’s very important that they know how to access city government, and the principal way today now is through the internet, whether you need information about how to register to be in a recreation program, or it’s some other kind of information that you need about your city government.
And cities are actually using the internet to reach out and push information out to constituents about what the city is doing on a day-to-day basis. We have council members that are communicating with their constituents directly using the the internet. And constituents are able to file complaints, for example, with the city online.
