The Office of the Chief Information Officer with its Enterprise Architecture program establishes many initiatives to transform government. This page provides the user with information and details regarding some of those initiatives that are being worked on. The projects and documents displayed will provide insight on the progress and challenges of each initiative.

State Wide Active Directory Initiative

The State Wide Active Directory Initiative lays the blueprint for an initiative to establish a unified directory for the state of California.

  • Status = In Progress
  • Sponsor = Joe Panora (CDCR)
  • Acknowledgements CDCR/EIS, CPHCS, PIA, O-Tech, Microsoft, Burton Group, EMC

    Challenges
    Duplicative multiple access methods

No common authentication and authorization policy across account forests within an agency

No directory synchronization process for the enterprise -- State, Agency, or Department level

Simple list infrastructure sharing cannot occur for cross-organizational collaboration

Synchronization and ability to move to single sign on cannot occur

Consistent account conventions are currently not feasible

Need to get out of the business of application based-authentication and authorization

    Intended Outcomes
Creating a single account domain for the Agency

Creating a governance structure at the Agency level that can be leveraged across the state

    Consolidated authentication and authorization architecture

Centralized and consistent employee provisioning capabilities

Scalable architecture at the various agencies

Readiness to join the larger state wide initiative
